Bayesian Linear Regression with Binary Predictor

Hi JASP Team.

I am trying to run a Bayesian Linear regression with several continuous predictor variables and one binary predictor variable (participant sex coded 0 and 1). My understanding is that because of the binary variable, I should use Bayesian ANCOVA in JASP. Is this correct? Can the binary variable be entered as a covariate, or should it be a fixed factor?

Many thanks

  • Yes, that's correct. If you use ANCOVA I think it should be a fixed factor. In the future we'll try to integrate these approaches better (i.e., recognize that a binary predictor variable requires different treatment within the regression GUI)
