Some images don't show up

An experiment is supposed to show a set of images but some of them are invisible on the sketchpad, although they show up in all image management programs (FastStone Image Viewer, Windows Paint, Windows Photos ...). I could not find any particular feature or property that make them different from the pictures that are visible. All the pictures (visible or not) have the same format (.jpeg) and dimensions (600 x 600). Any idea ?

  • Hi Gérard,

if you are using Apple, this could be your problem.

  • Hello Stephan,

Thank you for this information, but I'm using Windows 10. The problem is not related to a question of timing or sequencing. Some pictures simply don't show up not only when the program is running, but also when I put them manually on the sketchpad.

  • Hi everybody,

The problem that I have reported is very erratic. I have attached the error message generated in the original experiment. I have identified all the images that do not show up (about 30% of the pool) and tested the display of those images, one by one, with another very simple minimum program. The strange thing is that they are not visible when I put them on the sketchpad, but they show up when that program is executed (? ! ?). The behavior of the original program is different: none of those images are visible, although the rest of the pool of images appear normaly. That problem of display seems clearly related to some specific images, always the same, but I don't detect any particular feature that could explain that behavior. The fact that they are visible in one program and not in the other means that Opensesame is also concerned.
The program operates under xpyriment but there is no improvement with the other backgrounds.
Any idea for additional testing or provision of information to the developers ?

    Thank you in advance,

  • Have you already tried to save your images in another format (e.g. tif). Open them with a picture program and save as image.tif

  • There is an improvement with the .tif format: all the images are visible when put manually on the sketchpad. However, the execution of the program fails again. I am going to try with .png.
Are all the formats supported by OS ?

  • The program runs with .png files. The problem is solved, thank you for your help.

An explanation could be that .jpg files may have different variants of compression algorithms. They may be less standardized than .png.
Anyway, thanks again and best regards,
