Assumption checks

I noticed that the menu for frequentist t-test has check boxes for "Normality" and "Equal variance" assumption checks. If i'm not mistaken, the Bayesian t-tests rely on the assumption, but i don't see check boxes there. Will they be added at some point - and if not, what is the reason to only include these checks in the frequentist test menu? Thanks.

  • Follow up: I suspect that the reason might be that you don't wish to mix frequentist tests (Levene and Shapiro-Wilk) into the Bayesian part of the program. If so, then my question changes to: are there plans to implement Bayesian assumption checks at some point? (I read in another post that you plan to add a non-parametric alternative to the Bayesian t-test, but couldn't find anything about the assumption check tests)

  • Well I am of two minds here. On the one hand I want those Bayesian assumption tests. On the other hand, the purpose of an assumption test is not to test the presence of a violation -- rather, you want to estimate its impact. So an estimation approach may be more sensible. And the estimation approaches are easier to implement as well.
