Connection error with psynteract

We are trying to do a two-player cooperate/compete experiment. If they are to cooperate and choose the same shape, they both win. If they are to compete and the person who finishes his goal wins. I could explain more about the experiment if necessary. We installed psynteract into opensesame and created the experiment and it works fine in the offline test mode. But when we tried to connect the two laptops, it shows exception type: not found; exception message: missing. Also we followed the instructions on how to install psynteract but when we opened the control panel URL, it says {"error":"not_found","reason":"missing"}. I don't have any experience with python and I don't know where the problem occurred. I am really having difficulty with my experiment so please if anyone can help me.

  • Hi there,

psynteract author here -- thanks for using the package, and for taking the time to submit a detailed report! I'm sorry that things aren't working as they should, and would be glad to help.

It looks to me that the OpenSesame plugin is installed and working fine, you've setup CouchDB, created a new database there and uploaded the experimenter backend, but it isn't showing up in the place you expected. Did I get that right?

I think that a missing backend would also prevent the OpenSesame plugin from running. I'll check that now to see whether I get the same error, and also re-check whether the installation is working ok with the most recent versions of everything. In the meantime, it would be super-helpful if you could confirm that you've created the database, and take a look in the CouchDB admin interface (you'll typically find that at http://<your-server-ip or 'localhost'>/_util) whether there's anything in it at all.

All the best, and thanks again for reporting this!

  • Thanks for answering my question! This is very helpful. Yes I have setup CouchDB and created psynteract database. I am not sure if I have uploaded the experimenter backend. All I did was creating psynteract database and installing control panel from the psynteract entry. Maybe the reason opensesame is not running is because I didn't upload the experimenter backend. Can you please direct me to an instruction page about how to install the backend? Thank you again for replying!
