response time
Hi,
This is quite a simple question but I need to be sure of the correct variable for my analysis. I developed a dot probe task in Opensesame. Participants see two pictures that appear on opposite sides of the screen for a certain amount of time, after this a probe (e.g. an asterisk) appears on one of those sides (left or right) and participants have to state by pressing the correct key (z or m) where it appeared. I used a keyboard response item and a logger. The variable I need is the reaction time of the participants, that is...how fast they pressed the correct key. My csv file gives me two variables one that is "average_response time" and one that is "response_time_keyboardresponse". My question is...what is the difference between these two? The values are quite diffferent so I am going for the "response_time_keyboardresponse" for what I need but what is the "average_response time" considering that the other is not?

Hello,
Take a look here:
http://osdoc.cogsci.nl/3.2/manual/variables/
The "response_time_keyboardresponse" is the RT for a particular trial, while 'average_response ' computes the mean of every RT given for every trial (I mean at each n loop it computes the mean of RT from 1,... to n), so it returns a different value in every line of your logger.
Best,
Sylvain
Thanks!
