response time and duration...adding up?

Hi,

I am currently running an experiment that including testing reaction time. as I am new to opensesame, so I set a duration time of the target trial at 750 ms ( which should be 0ms) and then add the keyboard response that has time limits of 5000ms. After 40 participants, I noticed that my data is really weird as some people reacted at the speed of "23ms". I deeply know that sounds really stupid, but can I simply add 750ms to those data as I noticed that the reaction times were collected only after the 750ms or do I have to re-run the experiment 40 times?

best wishes

may

  • Hi May, yes, the way you set up your trial procedure, participants couldn't respond prior to 750 ms after stimulus onset..! You would need to add 750 to all RTs so that 23 ms becomes 773 ms, but of course it's reasonable to assume that people will often have tried to respond earlier than 750 ms after stimulus onset...
