  You could add an 'OK' (or 'next' button). There actually is an example on this on the Documentation site: http://osdoc.cogsci.nl/forms/custom-forms/ (see under 'Another example').

  Hi Edwin,

  Thanks for your help, I've added an OK-button and the experiment moves on as intended. However, I tried to log the response on the rating scale, but I couldn't find out how I can add the rating scale response as a variable to the log item. Do you have any idea how that could be done?

  Hi Patrick,

  Herewith a couple of suggestions that could help you to log the rating-scale reponse:

  1.
  The keyword 'var' indicates the header of the column in the output file that contains the answer of the participant on the rating scale. In your case, the column name is 'response', because you defined the rating_scale widget like so:

  widget 1 1 1 1 rating_scale var="response" nodes="1;2;3;4;5;6;7"

  Note that if node 1 is clicked, 'response' get's the value 0, if button node 2 is clicked, it get's the value 1, etc. (because in Python counting always starts at 0).

  2.
  If your output file does not contain a variable named 'response' (or whatever value you gave to the keyword 'var'), you could manually add this variable to the logger item like so:

  • Deactivate 'Automatically detect and log all variables'
  • Click 'Add custom variable'
  • Type in the variable you want to log

  3.
  You called the rating-scale response 'response'. This is somewhat dangerous, because OpenSesame automatically calls input variables (e.g. from a keyboard_response item or a mouse item) 'response' as well. So, if your trial_sequence contains such an item after your form_base item and before your logger item, the rating-scale 'response' variable is overwritten by the subsequent 'response' variable. Therefore it's good practice to give the 'var' keyword in the rating_scale widget a different value, for example:

  widget 1 1 1 1 rating_scale var="rating_scale_response" nodes="1;2;3;4;5;6;7"
