Running online experiments on MAC
in OSWeb
Hello,
Does anyone have experience in running online experiments on MAC? My experiment works perfectly on windows (so the links I send to my participants work on windows), but when I do it on MAC the first time there is an audio file, the experiment stops. Did anyone have a similar problem and knows how to solve it? :)

Hi Angelina,
Could you provide more information on the issue? Is there an error message? Have you checked the console in the browser? Maybe your participants can send you a screenshot of it.
I don't know what could be the issue. Do you happen to have hardcoded the path to the file? Then this issue could be a file not found error (due to back and forward slashes).
Anyway, without further info it will be very hard to help you properly.
Thanks,
Eduard
Hi Eduard,
Thank you for your prompt reply! I tried the link myslef to see what the problem was, and here it goes:
The experiment starts without any issues but on the 6th page (screen) the audio file should start upon pressing enter. However, this does not happen, when I press enter the sound does not appear and I cannot move forward with the experiment. So there is no error message, just the fact that the audio does not start and it is not possible to continue the experiment.
I hope I was able to explain the issue :) Thank you again for the help you are all doing an amazing job!
Hi Angelina,
Okay, can you maybe open the console of your browser (for firefox ctrl+shift+k) and check whether there are any error messages in there?
Maybe that is actually not a mac issue, but a browser issue. I think Safari is primarily used on MACs, so if the problem only occurs on safaris, you could ask your participants to use a different browser.
Other than that, I have unfortunately no clue what the problem could be (provided that there is no error message).

I had the same problem with my Mac and Safari so I ended up downloading Firefox. I can listen to all the stimuli there. It's a problem related toSafari & OSWeb. You can try and check in the Safari Menu Preferences if the sound is blocked...
