Is there a way to assess constant delay characterizing the operating-system browser combination

I hope this Q makes sense...

From the Bridges et al. 2020 PeerJ paper I understand that any given browser-OS combination has its own characteristic constant delay. My question is (a) any idea what are these delays for OS-WEB? and (b) maybe there is a way to assess this delay as a part of running the exp, so that it adds one variable to the output (which can then be used in offline computation for example).

Additionally - is there any idea about the SD-error of RT recording for OS WEB?

Many thanks!!

  • Hi @nmeiran

It is true that each browser has its own latency characteristics and some browsers do a lot better than others. But to shortly answer your question: no, we have never benchmarked osweb in that sense and have no idea how it performs. It is also really hard to synthetically assess these delays, as you often need specialized equipment (such as a photometer) to accurately measure them. Sadly there is no simple script that can quickly perform these measurements.
