Jatos server on Ubuntu

On Ubuntu, should jatos use Oracle java JRE or OpenJDK JRE?

Comments

  • Both are fine - but if you want to use Oracle's you have to pay (as far as I know) to use it in 'production'. So I always recommend OpenJDK.

  • I installed openJDK JRE and all went fine.

  • Or just use the jatos_linux_java variant... I opted for this as it'll ensure that any changes to the system-wide Java won't affect the studies.

  • As the server is dedicated to JATOS, system-wide java is dedicated to… JATOS too.

I opted for independant jre so that I could update JATOS and java independantly. And in case of major security update available for java I won't wait to apply the update.
