New variable in SPSS file, JASP no longer computing

Hi there.

I added aa few new variables to an SPSS file, some had missing values as these were computed from some other variables. However, when I synched my new SPSS file with my JASP file, it gives error messages, not only when I want to run a new analysis but also for analyses that were already in the file but did not even use any of the new variables! I don't understand this. Can you help? I really would like to use the new file. If it's a random error I guess I can adjust my JASP file instead, I just find SPSS easier to work with computing new variables. Thanks!

Here's the message:

This analysis terminated unexpectedly.

Error in analysis(dataset = dataset, options = options, perform = perform, : unused arguments (perform = perform, callback = the.callback, state = oldState)

  • It also gives other messages, can't seem to copy-paste

some variables have no values (only missings) or no variance

or: some categories of variables are empty...

it also comments on the matri not being positive-deifnite, but with the old SPSS file it worked fine, and that was mostly similar!

  • Hi Liesbeth

I'll forward this to our team. If you want fast help on such issues in the future, your best bet is to post the issue on our GitHub page, because then you can contact the programmers directly, and you'll get guidance on what you need to report so that they can address the problem.

    Cheers,

    E.J.

  • I think it may have to do something with the way the missing values are coded in the different datasets, could that explain the error messages?

  • Hi Liesbeth,

It'd be very helpful if you could post this to our Github page.

Doing so will make it a little easier for us to solve your problem (it saves some going back and forth, as the issue template helps us obtain very useful information). As an added bonus, it might help others who face a similar issue now or in the future.

When you make the Github issue, could you attach the original .sav file as well as the .jasp file that is giving you trouble?

  • Hi sorry for the delay! I solved it by changing the original file, will remember for next time though! Thanks for the help!
