Blank screen in Chrome / Edge
Hey there,
I have set up an experiment in which participants are presented with a randomized loop of 3x3 picture matrices. They have to click one of two buttons depending on the presentation of a target. I want to run the study in OSWeb on JATOS. I am using the General Multiple Worker for testing purposes.
When running the experiment on Firefox or Opera everything works fine. But on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge the loop breaks after approximately 100 trials. There is only a blank screen displayed (no error message).
However, JATOS gives no error-message in the log-files.
Has anyone an idea what can cause the break or have had a similar problem in the past?
I thank you very much in advance for your help.
Best, Isabelle

Hi Isabelle,
Is this problem occurring systematically? Do you also not see an error message if you open the browser console? I don't know what could cause this issue, but for experiments that contain pictures, memory issues are frequently occurring. If this was so, using smaller or fewer images would improve the situation. If you don't find an error message anywhere, you could try that (showing the same 9 images over and over, and see whether it still crashes), to find out whether it is indeed memory-related.
However, JATOS gives no error-message in the log-files.
I don't know whether JATOS is picking up all the error messages that occur in Osweb, or whether there are some that wouldn't appear in the log file? @kri do you know?

@ed1334 I guess 'pick up error messages' means in the browser occurring errors are being sent back to JATOS and saved in JATOS' log. Automatically JATOS or jatos.js doesn't pick up any error messages that happen in the browser. But one can do this themselves with jatos.log and since v3.5.6 one can also use jatos.catchAndLogErrors.
I have exactly the same problem. Most of my participants can't finish the experiment because the screen turns either black or white. The sounds continues to play...
I also use JATOS as a server.
Hm. I'm not sure if this is a problem of your experiment, OSWeb, JATOS or a network problem. But maybe with some questions we get somewhere:

Hi Kristian,
my colleagues also use OS & JATOS and they don't have this problem, so I guess it's a problem of my OS experiment. I can't reproduce the error because the experiment works on my computer (with Safari, after changing some settings).
It happens in the local JATOS, the server of my university and the information that JATOS provides is unfortunately not relevant...

Hi Mireia,
It's difficult to say something about your problem when there is no way to reproduce the problem. And I'm reluctant to try the provided link to your study, that takes 25-30 min, if there is a high chance that the problem will not turn up. But I have some ideas what you can try:

I have already tried all of those (especially the first and the last point), but thank you anyway.
