Credible Intervals in the Descriptive Statistics window
This is probably a naive question but would appreciate some insight here.
I see that JASP outputs 95% credible intervals for a test statistic (correlation, t-test) and the interpretation of that is something along the lines of "given the data, the test statistic has a 95% probability of falling within the lower and upper bounds"
However, what I am struggling with is the 95% credible intervals that are outputted in the descriptive statistics table of an ANOVA. Is the interpretation of the 95% credible interval in this descriptive table something along the lines of "95% of my observed data is within the lower and upper bounds".
Thank you

Hi Rohanp16,
I guess it is a little weird to add credible intervals in a "descriptive" table, because the intervals are an inference. These credible intervals are for the group means, under a uniform prior. You can change the priors (under "Additional Options") to confirm that it leaves the credible intervals unaffected (but it does change the BF). We should add that to the help file.

Thanks for the prompt response E.J.
I see... so with the uniform prior, the posterior distribution of the mean is dominated by the likelihood (data), correct? Thus, the interpretation of the 95% CI is "given the data, the mean has a 95% probability of falling within the lower and upper bounds"?
Given the data and the uniform prior (and the likelihood), the probability is 95% that mu lies between the lower and upper bound. [I would use mu in order to distinguish between the sample value and the inference]

Perfect, thanks E.J.
