Covariates for hierarchical multiple regression

Hello,

I've just started to use JASP, so sorry for the silly question. I'm running a hierarchical multiple regression, but as I try to enter the variable gender as a covariate, JASP doesn't allow me to do it. Gender, of course, is a nominal dummy coded variable. However, in many tutorials I've seen that JASP does allow to do it.

Thank you for your answers.

  • Hi Andre,

This is in fact a very good question. Previously we did allow factors to be entered as predictors, but they weren't correctly coded as factors. In the upcoming version we have separate input boxes for continuous covariates and factors. If you need this quickly let me know and I'll ask whether it is already available in our "use at your own risk, nothing may work" nightlies.

    Cheers,

    E.J.

  • Hi EJ,

thank you for your answer. Now I can figure out why it didn't work.

Yes, please. If it is available, I'd really need to use this function in the program "at my own risk" :)

    Best,

    Andre

  • Hi Andre,

The nightlies are available here: https://static.jasp-stats.org/Nightlies/ and the latest nightlies should allow you to use categorical variables as covariates. If you encounter any bugs, please let us know! (See https://jasp-stats.org/2018/03/29/request-feature-report-bug-jasp/ for a guide on how to do that).

    Cheers,

    Don
