Hunter & Schmidt Meta-Analysis

I would like to conduct a random effects Hunter & Schmidt meta-analysis. The results claim to be both random and fixed. How do I select just random?

  • I'm not exactly familiar with this particular method, but I think the title marked in the ellipse is simply a generic title that was not tailored to this particular method choice. The metafor-project's website gives a more complete description of what this method does, and what the output means: https://www.metafor-project.org/doku.php/tips:hunter_schmidt_method?s[]=hunter

  • Hi Guys,

I move this discussion to Jasp, there you probably will receive better help.

    Good luck,

  • Metafor is capable of either fixed, random effect or mixed effects models, so that doesn't explain what JASP is doing. It is important that we can select either or.

  • Metafor is capable of many methods. They are all listed in the method dropdown menu. You have to pick one of them. This implies that metafor cannot do a fixed- or a random- H&S meta-analysis, it can do a fixed, a random, or a H&S meta-analysis. The documentation referred to earlier describes how that's done in R. The JASP meta-analysis module is merely an graphical interface to metafor.

  • I understand that. My question is how do you use the JASP interface to select random once you've selected Hunter and Schmidt. If the title is wrong, can you confirm which one it is performing?
