RoBMA "JAGS distributions could not be found" message

Hi everyone,

I get the attached error message from JASP when trying to run a RoBMA. I installed & updated JAGS 4.3, the packages runjags, rjags, coda in RStudio, then updated my Xcode (I'm on Mac). I tried a different type of RoBMA using the "BCG vaccine" data set and got the same error message. What am I missing?

  • Here's a picture of the problem with the BCG data set. I watched the YouTube video and searched the PsyArXiv pre-print for "install" to see if I had missed instructions on what else to install but was none the wiser. :(

  • Hi eniseg2,

thanks for reporting the issue. The RoBMA JASP module should be completely self-contained within JASP, so, there should be no need of installing JAGS and the remaining packages yourself.

Can you please clarify what exact version of MacOS are you using? Is it running on the new M1 chips?

    Best,

    Frantisek

  • Hi Frantisek,

I am running this model in the December 2020 JASP version on Mac OS Big Sur, using an M1 Mac mini.

    Any tips for me?

  • Hi eniseg,

I am really sorry, but I can't help you at this moment - I checked with our team and we do not have a machine running the M1 chip yet. There are many architectural differences between the M1 (based on ARM) and the older Intel (based on x86/x64) CPUs that can cause it, and we are unable to fix this issue without reproducing it locally.

  • There is actually one thing that might help us to identify the problem.

Could you please download the attached file, unzip it, load it into JASP, refresh it, and verify whether the JAGS-JASP module reproduces the output? That way we can figure out whether the issue is in JAGS or RoBMA module itself.

  • Hi! I opened the JASP file attached, and got this as the output? Best, eniseg

  • Hi eniseg,

thank you for testing this for us. It suggests that the issue is with the RoBMA R package itself (which is not great news for me since I'm responsible for it). I will see what I can do to make it working on the new M1 chips, but until then it seems like that the RoBMA module won't be available on M1 devices.

  • Hi Frantisek,

That's a nuisance but I can use my older laptop with Intel to run any RoBMA. Thank you for looking into this and if you need anymore M1 testing, don't hesitate to contact me. I think we follow each other on Twitter (in case I'm not in this forum again for a while).

  • Hi Frantisek,

Just to let you know I tried RoBMA on my Intel laptop running Mac OS Big Sur and got the same error message. Best, Anna

  • Hi Anna,

thanks for letting me know. We should have access to the intel based Macs so we will take a look at it and see what we can do.

    Best,

    Frantisek
