How to report visual angle?

Hi guys,

how is the visual angle usually reported in scientific publications? Do I report the visual angle of an objected presented on a screen horizontally, vertically or both?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

  • Hi @ToKillTime,

Check how it is reported in the scientific literature relevant to your field; this will be a good indication of what the common practice is in that field. Otherwise, generally speaking, for completeness, and unless you use stimuli that are as wide as high, I would report both vertical and horizontal angles.

I trust you know the trigonometry formulas to calculate the angles, but in case you don't and find it confusing, you can use the online calculator provided by SR-Research: https://www.sr-research.com/visual-angle-calculator/

  • Thank you for your answer @Fab!

I was unsure because I found literature where only one or both dimensions were reported. But I will report both dimension, so I am on the safe side.
