Dummy Coding in JASP

Dear team,

I am running multiple regression with IV of countinous and categorical. I have categorical variable with two values so I dummy coded it to (0,1), another categorical variable with 3 values, I created it dummy coding for it (1,0 - 0,1).

Since the current version of JASP does not allow adding categorical variable into the covariates box in linear regression, is it valid step to convert the newly created dummy coded variables into scale data type so that I add them as covariates?

Thank you!

  • Hi Sameha,

No, that is not valid. These are factors and need to be treated as such.

  • Hi EJ,

Thanks for the clarifications. So, in this case, I think i need to wait for the new version of JASP as I can't add categorical variables into the regression model in current version of JASP; there is no option for factors.

    Please correct me if wrong.

    Thank you,

    Sameha

  • Correct. The new version should be available this week.
