Hi,

Any news on when JASP 0.17 will be released🤪?

  • Hi Per,

We're aiming for another release with new functionality end of September, with the 0.17 hopefully soon after.

    Cheers,

    E.J.

  • Hi E.J.,

    Still no JASP 1.0? ;)

Another question: more and more of my students use JASP in analysing data from their research projects. I am now frequently asked whether JASP is "serious" software (i.e., such as R, SPSS), and how often the software has been cited in research papers. Do you have an idea?

    Cheers,

    Peter Klaren

  • Hi Peter,

We'll have JASP 1.0 once the data-editing and R syntax are included -- we are working hard on both projects.

Wrt the seriousness, I guess the question is motivated by the fact that JASP is so user-friendly :-) Anyway, yes, JASP is very serious. Some arguments you might mention:

    1. Over 230 universities in 59 countries use JASP in their courses (see the world map on our website)
    2. Several Dutch universities are in the process of switching from SPSS to JASP. In Utrecht the Social Sciences have completely switched already. At the UvA and RUG, both are offered.
    3. A search on YouTube reveals course materials developed by teachers across the world.
    4. The international company SKF has switched from Minitab to JASP.
    5. Dutch companies sometimes ask for JASP experience in their ads!
    6. We have a project that validates the JASP outcomes by comparing it to that of other software.
    7. JASP offers several state-of-the-art procedures that are missing from SPSS (e.g., our meta-analysis toolkit, our auditing toolkit, the Bayesian procedures, etc.)

I am not sure how often JASP is cited; people might cite several JASP papers (or they may not cite the software at all). Let me quickly check Google scholar...if I search for JASP statistics I get about 19.4k hits.

    Cheers,

    E.J.

  • Thanks, E.J., I will mention your list in the students' Statistics 1 lecture notes for oncoming academic year!

Using Anne-Wil Harzings Publish-or-Perish software (https://harzing.com/resources/publish-or-perish), a quick search for Team JASP citations yields 3324 citations of 109 papers (software releases?):

    Cheers,

    Peter

  • Thanks. Yes but I think a lot of people will cite papers instead of software, especially since we have papers about the software :-)
