Implementing a rating scale for online study

Hi all,

I'm trying to implement a rating scale / slider in javascript for an online study. I can paint the visual stuff using a Canvas object, but I haven't found out yet how to track mouse position and clicks or, alternatively, key position. Is this not implemented yet? Are there alternative ways to do this? It is important that the study can be run online.

Best

  • It seems that I will be able to build on this example. Sorry for the unnecessary post.

  • Hi @Also,

indeed, this example shows how to present a picture and get a slider that moves left or right as you press the left and right keys. Very neat solution. The latest version of the program's seems to have issue with the jpg pictures inside, so I've solved that and attach here again (credit goes to @lvanderlinden). It works well with OSWeb, only you have to disabled the logger's feature that saves all variable (I've disabled it). Just make sure to edit it to enable the variables you need; if you don't, no data will be saved at all).

An alternative method, if you don't need an actual slider but just a rating, is to use the keyboard to take in a numerical value (participants pressing the key corresponding to the rating they want to select, for example 1 to 9). That method would require no Javascript programming at all. Depends on what you requires.

Both methods would work well to collect scale judgements.

    Good luck!

    Fabrice.
