Tobii-research or other problems
Hi everyone!
We have programmed our eyetracking experiment in OpenSesame and it works fine in Advanced Dummy mode. However, when we try to use the eyetracker (Tobii Pro Fusion), it sadly doesn't work.
The error we get is: no module named 'tobii_research'. We are trying to install tobii_research with pip but we haven't figured out hów we can do it. Can someone help us?
The versions we have are:
OpenSesame > 3.3.10
pip > 20.0.2
python > 3.7.6
python-pygaze > 0.7.3
all on Windows 10
Possible reasons for the error that we found online are:
- incorrect version of python - pygaze only works with python 2.7
- incorrect version of python - tobii_research works only with python 3.8
If the issue indeed lies in the python version, can someone tell us how to change the python version used in OpenSesame? We de-installed 3.7.6 on the computer but OpenSesame still reports version number 3.7.6.
Or maybe the issue is in something else entirely.
Hope someone can help us out, much appreciated :) If more info is needed, please let me know!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
incorrect version of python - pygaze only works with python 2.7
That is not the case. Pygaze is also Python 3 compatible.

That depends on how you installed Opensesame. If you installed it with Conda, changing the Python version is (rather) easy. There are plenty example of doing it online (e.g. here).
Or maybe the issue is in something else entirely.
That is of course possible. Perhaps it is related to this issue here:
Other than that, I can't say much about your issue. Sorry.
good luck in any case!
Eduard
Hi!
I had the same issue. I solved by installing opensesame 3.2 and then the tobii package via package installer. I do, however, have another issue.
I can connect my tobii with opensesame and even calibrate. However, what I am missing is how to save the recording in tobii studio/tobii pro. This is important to e.g, create visualizations and AOIs for analyses.
Anyone has ideas? Thanks!
Hi app,
No idea how this would work. Perhaps you can ask the tobii people about it? They just be able to point you towards the relevant sections in their python api that would allow with tobii studio.
Good luck,
Eduard
Thanks, Eduard!
