Hi there,

I have set up an experiment using OpenSesame that I run on JATOS. The recruitment is supposed to be through Prolific. I have set up the Batch Session Data following the instructions in the OpenSesame documentation (https://osdoc.cogsci.nl/4.0/manual/counterbalancing/) to make sure that a new condition is drawn for each participant at the beginning of the experiment. I then set up the study links (also following the OS documentation https://osdoc.cogsci.nl/4.0/manual/osweb/prolific/) which suggests to use the worker type "General Multiple". When doing test runs with the link I created, I realized that sometimes my experiment would continuously draw a condition from the Batch Session Data (which would then be moved from "started" to "pending") even though this should only happen once. I have realized that this typically happens when I open the link in more than 2 Browser windows. When switching to "Personal Multiple", I didn't run into this problem. I tried to familiarize myself with the documentation on worker types and study links but I can't really work out the difference between these two link types. Additionally, I'm wondering whether there's a reason why the Batch Session Data would work with Personal Multiple but not General Multiple.

Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Hi!

You solved it already. Nice. I just want to say, for future readers, that the batch session works independent of the study link/worker type. Therefore you can use it with every type or even combination of them.
