Time_ Variable Does Not Exist

I've been running an in-person experiment using OSWeb and JATOS. While it worked completely fine with no errors on one set of computers, I started running participants in a different room and have run into occasional issues where the program will freeze on a fixation sketchpad set for 750 ms at the start of a simple loop that contains only a sketchpad, multiple-choice response form, and an inline javascript.

When I open the console, I see an error that says, "Uncaught VariableDoesNotExist: Variable time_GEMS_form does not exist". What's odd is that this error appears seemingly at random at different parts of the loop without consistency. This error will also sometimes occur during different loops with different form names (e.g, time_BMIS_form does not exist) and seems to be occurring only every 1 out of 6 runs or so as well. For reference, this is occurring on Windows using Google Chrome.

Since this is a time variable automatically managed and created by OSWeb, I am unsure how to resolve the issue.

  • Hi Connor,

so you say, there is no GEMS item in your experiment? If there is one, you could try to disable logging all variables. If there is none, could you paste the full error trace? By the way, is there a reason you use OSweb, even though you run it in the lab (at least that's the way it sounds).
