JASP and writing out abbreviation

Hi,

There is clear information how to reference JASP:

JASP Team (2024). JASP (Version 0.18.3)[Computer software].

However, recently I had a discussion with an editor about when referring to a software in e.g methods section. So he/she wanted for exemple “SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)”. Are we with JASP to write (Jeffery’s Amazing Statistical Program)? Even though I love JASP and truly think the program is amazing, it doesn’t sound particularly academic.😳

All the best

  • The correct reference is just "JASP". The abbreviation was concocted afterwards, and initially it did not stand for anything, in particularly not "Just Another Statistics Program". When we refer to JASP ourselves, in published papers, we never write out the abbreviation -- it wasn't really a serious one to begin with.
