Error transferring data

Hi all,

Almost exactly this issue has come up in the forum already, but I can't figure out how to apply the solutions to my problem, so I'm creating a new discussion, hope that's okay!

I'm hosting an OSWeb experiment on Mindprobe, and the first participant just completed it. Unfortunately, they got the message "A problem occurred: failed to transfer data.", and no data at all has been logged under results in the component results on mindprobe, so here is where my issue differs from what I've seen in the forum, where at least some of the data is stored. I tried it myself before my participant did, with the same personal multiple link in the same WIFI as them, and I was able to finish it, with all of the data transferred and stored. Could it have anything to do with any cookies or the browser in general? I used my duckduckgo browser when it worked for me. I'm also not entirely sure if I am creating/using the right (types of) links, maybe that's where the issue is?

    I just read another forum discussion that might be exactly my issue and that i missed until now, and I'll try it out! I hadn't enabled "allow reload", and I think my participant reloaded the link at the beginning!

    Hi Heidi,

    It's difficult to say, what went wrong with the study run of your participant. OSWeb's error message "A problem occurred: failed to transfer data." is quite generic. But my first idea is that there was some issue with the network and therefore the data couldn't be transferred. Another possible issue might be the size of your result data and if it exceeds a certain size (5MB) for one submission it transfer will also fail.

    I can't imagine cookies doing this.

    I used my duckduckgo browser when it worked for me.

    It is always advisable to test a study on the bigger browsers, like Firefox, Edge, Safari, Chrome. There are still things that work in one but not in others.

    I'm also not entirely sure if I am creating/using the right (types of) links, maybe that's where the issue is?

    If the study run started, that means you saw your OSWeb study running, your JATOS study link worked fine. If you got the wrong link, the study run would not have started and just shown an error.

    I hadn't enabled "allow reload", and I think my participant reloaded the link at the beginning!

    Sorry to say, but the error message for a not allowed reload within a JATOS study run is different: it would clearly state that it is not allowed to reload the study.
