Descriptive statistics and plots

I'm on a course following a worksheet and I'm stuck because the worksheet is for an older version of JASP.

I am trying to create a distribution plot from a list of ratings. When the data are in ordinal, the plot is correct, but a mean isn't calculated and I cannot create a box-plot. When I put the data into scale, I get the mean, but the distribution plot is incorrect, though I can produce a boxplot.

What am I doing wrong?

  • The current version of JASP is perhaps a little too strict. It won't give a mean because ordinal data do not have a mean. We are relaxing this restriction in the upcoming version (I hope; I will check to make sure)
