[solved] Plugins not found by OpenSesame on Linux Mint 17.1
Hi,
I downloaded and installed the VLC and GStreamer plugins from https://github.com/dschreij/media_player_vlc and https://github.com/dschreij/media_player_gst/ using the DOWNLOAD button. I unziped the files in /usr/share/opensesame/plugins and then in ~/.opensesame/plugins because the plugin was not found by OpenSesame with the first directory. Nothing seemed to change in OpenSesame. I could not find the icons in the in the tool column, and when I checked the "Tools/Plug-in and extension manager", I could find all the plugins of /usr/share/opensesame/plugins except the media players. Is there anything to do beyond extracting the zip files in the right directory?
I erased and restored a plugin from /usr/share/opensesame/plugins to check that it disappeared then came back in OpenSesame as expected. I am therefore sure that OpenSesame reads that directory. I have worked more than two hours without success and I am running out of idea.
I am using Linux Mint 17.1 kernel 3.13.0-52-generic with OpenSesame 2.9.5 installed from the ppa:smathot/cogscinl PPA. I also have VLC 2.1.6 and I installed all the gstreamer packages described in the GStreamer plugin Web page.
PS1: I read many things and articles about Psychopy, OpenSesame, E-Prime and similar pieces of software last Saturday including Garaizar et al. (2014) with the 5 comments. I happily chose OpenSesame despite the fact that my laboratory has E-Prime. I replicated the full experiment from the beginner tutorial and I tested a few things. I must say that I am very impressed by the quality and the easiness of use of OpenSesame. Congratulations to the whole team!
PS2: Sebastiaan Mathot, we are almost neighbors. I work in the Laboratoire Parole et Langage, UMR 7309 in Aix-en-Provence :-)

I found the solution. The problem was that the name of the directory containing the pluging was called "media_player_gst-master" while the plugin name was "media_player_gst". OpenSesame did not like. I just had to rename the directory "media_player_gst-master" as "media_player_gst" to make it work.
