Response Timeout + Foot-Pedal Set

Hi everyone!!!!
I’m building a tactile detection experiment in which participants see moving visual stimuli on the screen.
In every single trial, I deliver a tactile input to the subject when the visual stimulus is located in different spatial points. The task is to respond as fast as possible to the tactile stimulus by pressing a pedal BUT I want that the visual stimulus doesn’t stop while subjects make their foot-responses.
So, the questions are:
1. How can I collect participants’ detection responses avoiding that the visual stimulus stops?
2. Is there a foot pedal set compatible with Open Sesame in order to purchase it?
Thanks
Chiara

  • Hi Chiara,

    1) If you use a sketchpad for your visual stimulus, the easiest solution is to place a copy of this sketchpad right after the response collection item. The first sketchpad should have a duration of 0 ms, the response item should have a timeout equal to the desired stimulus duration, and the second sketchpad should have the duration desired stimulus duration - [response_time].

    2) OpenSesame is compatible with several response collection systems (see the website), so it might be the case that there are ready-made foot pedal systems as well.

    Cheers,

    Josh
