Overwhelmed by OpenSesame - need help with simple experiment

Dear all,
I am very new to Open Sesame and I have watched several tutorials but somehow I am not able to do what I want to do. All I need is an experiment in which participants listen to a statement, they then have to agree/disagree with a click and then they are asked to repeat that statement and record it.

I have no found the options I need for this - can anyone please advise and roughly outline how to do it?

Thanks!

Mimi

  • Hello,

If I understand your experiment correctly, you try to present some audio stimuli to participants at first and then get response (agree/disagree), finally have participants repeat the statement to record it.

I think it is not difficult. Just create the trial sequence by sampler, keyboard for response, and sound recording.

  • Hi Mimi,

You say you have watched several tutorials. Have you also actually done one? I suggest you do the Cats Dogs & Capybara's tutorial. It works with sound samples and may have a structure similar to the one you envisioned.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  • Hi all,

    thank you for your responses!

Josh, I am just looking at the Cats, Dogs & Cabybara tutorial and it does look as if it is similar to what I need. It also looks like it is made for someone who has absolutely no idea how to use OpenSesame (moi) so I will definitely do that one!

I felt like the tutorial that you can click on when opening OpenSesame assumes too much prior knowledge.

    Wish me luck.

  • Just one more question - when the instrument is done (hopefully, at some point) - how can I transfer it to other computers? I am designing it at home but will have to use it at a lab.

  • Hi,

If you have already installed OpenSesame into the lab PC, you can just copy the experiment file .osexp with any other files you need (e.g., files of audio stimuli) from your home PC to lab.
