Thank you for participating in this investigation. The world around us is often interpreted in different ways; where one person sees one thing, a different person might see a completely different thing altogether. This experiment looks at whether we can cause participants to perceive a different object when they are shown the same stimulus.
This is an implicit memory-based experiment, which looks at the effects of implicit memory priming on perception. The experiment is divided into two phases: the exposure phase and the identification phase. During the priming phase, you will be introduced to a selection of both natural and manufactured stimuli, in both Mooney form and greyscale form, with a label indicating what the object in the picture is. During the identification phase, you will be asked to write down any object you can see in the image.
Throughout the experiment, all instructions will be shown clearly on the screen. At the end of the experiment, you will be provided with a debrief with a more detailed description of what is being investigated. You are free to leave the experiment at any point with no penalty given, and you may contact the experimenters for up to one month after the experiment has taken place for your data to be removed.
Thank you again for participating in this experiment.
You can ask the research investigators at any point before, during, or after the experiment if you have any questions. Only your participant number will identify your dataset, ensuring your data is held anonymously. Upon completion of the experiment, you will receive a debrief form with more details about the study and contact information for the researchers.
Taking part in this research can contribute to the scientific output of the School of Psychology. The data collected will focus on your accuracy in recognizing previously presented Mooney images from an image set. Your data will be stored anonymously in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
There is no risk of harm associated with taking part in this research. You are free to withdraw at any time without penalty. You can request your data be removed up to one month after participation by contacting the researchers with your participant number.
Please click "I Consent" to continue, or close this tab if you do not wish to participate.
We greatly appreciate your time and contribution to this study.
This is a longitudinal experiment, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
If you wish to withdraw your data, you can do so by contacting the research team at joel.solomons@plymouth.ac.uk, for up to two weeks after the experiment.
Your participation is completely voluntary, and there is no penalty for withdrawing. Your data will remain anonymous in accordance with ethical standards and the Data Protection Act.
Please press the button below to finish the experiment.
Please identify both objects you have seen in the previous image. You can include multiple answers, separated with a comma. :

Welcome to the reaction time task! Your goal is to press the spacebar as quickly as possible when the fixation dot disappears and the text "Press the spacebar" is shown on the screen.
Each trial begins with a fixation dot in the center of the screen. Stay focused, and as soon as the fixation dot disappears, press the spacebar when prompted.
You will complete 60 trials in total. Try to respond as quickly and accurately as possible.
Thank you for completing the priming phase. In the next part of the experiment, you will be shown Mooney images for as long as you wish. When you have finished looking at the image, press any key to continue to the next screen, where you can identify the two images.
Each image CONTAINS TWO OBJECTS. Please try to identify BOTH OBJECTS, separated by a comma. Once you have identified as many of these objects as you can, press OK to move to the next trial.
Please press any key when you are ready to continue to the next phase of the experiment.
Please press OK to continue.
