[open] Dot Probe task replacing pictures

edited February 2015 in OpenSesame

Hi All,
I am really new to this program or the python programming language. I need assistance to set up a dot probe task in two weeks. I tried to read and follow some of the instructions but its really confusing. Can someone help to simplify the language and guide me in setting up this experiment.
The concept is for one of the two dot probes (:)/(..) to replace one of the two pictures displayed (varying level of attractiveness). The photos, the location of the dot probe (either after the left or right photo) and the type of dot probe (:/..) will need to be random. The participant will need to indicate the type of the dot probe correctly.
I will really appreciate if someone can guide me or point me to the right direction. I really need help in grasping this program. I thank you all so much in advance. :)

    Hi,

As far as I understand, you have three factors: image position (attractive left/right), dot positions (left/right), and dot identity (:/..). If you need them to be random, I recommend using the variable wizard in a loop item, as is described here. There you add every factor with all its level into a column each. The variable wizard will create a perfectly counterbalanced design that is random.
Depending on how you create your stimuli, you might even be able to proceed with the next steps of the tutorial without having to make major changes.

    I hope this helped.

    Eduard
