How to measure reaction time releasing a key ?

edited November 2016 in OpenSesame

Hi everybody !

I apologize if there's still some post on that subject, but I didn't find them.

In my experiment, I would ask to my participants to respond to a single shape. They could choose freely to respond on left or on right.
In both case they have to act in the same way :

  • Press the space bar during the inter-trial mask,
  • Release it when the shape disappear,
  • Press the right or the left key.

I wish to measure 3 times :

  • Reaction time between the disappearance of the shape and the release of the space bar,
  • Movement time between the release of the space bar and the press of the key,
  • Response time between the disappearance of the shape and the press of the key.

How could I do that ?

Thanks for reading

  • Hi Ronan,

With the Opensesame items directly, getting the key_release time won't be possible. So, you would need to do some python scripting. This is not too difficult though. Here an example using the pygame backend.

Is this enough to get you started? I suggest you give it a try and once you get stuck you'll ask again.

    Good luck,
    Eduard
