[open] Two queries: Support for the Farsi fonts and the Voice RTs
I want to use Persian (Farsi) words that are form the right to left. I have changed the font to and I can see the font preview in the font section correctly, but when running the experiment, there are only squares are presented.
In addition, I was curious to know if there could be a possibility to find some plugins for the open sesame to collect
voice reaction times.
Cheers,
Masoud

Hi Masoud,
If rectangles instead of letters are displayed this indicates that the font is not correctly set. As you probably already know, you can change the font like so: Click the font-family combo box and choose "other ...". Next, select a font that really contains Farsi characters.
For determining whether a given font contains the appropriate characters, the preview in the interface is not so informative. More specifically, the interface is "clever" in the sense that it falls back to a different font in case the chosen font does not contain (some of the) input characters. OpenSesame does not contain this functionality, and therefore what you see in the preview does not necessarily guarantee the same behaviour in practice.
So, my advice is to first make sure that you really selected a font that should contain Farsi characters. If then the text is still not appropriately shown, please let us know and we can have a further look at it.
For your second question, about the possibility of collecting vocal responses, I would like to refer you to a previous post on this topic:
I hope this helps! Don't hesitate to post any further questions!

Dear lvanderlinden
Thanks for the informative message. However, I still cannot see the "other" option in the combo box to change the fonts. I am using OpenSesame 0.26.
Peace,
Masoud
Hi Masoud,
You're right! I forgot to mention that setting system fonts is possible from OpenSesame 0.27 onwards. For OpenSesame 0.27, a lot of effort has been put into making OpenSesame friendly to non-western alphabets. I would therefore recommend you to obtain the latest pre-release (currently 0.27~pre34) as described here:
I hope that this will solve your problem. And if not, please let us know!
Good luck,
Lotje

I have installed the latest version which allows me to select Farsi fonts, but the outcome is still squares instead of letters.
The discussion about Farsi fonts appears to have moved to:
