Voice recording plugin on Mac

Hi, I am building an experiment using Open Sesame which will require recording participants' voice responses. I've followed these instructions https://osdoc.cogsci.nl/3.2/manual/response/soundrecording/ to use the sound_start_recording and sound_stop_recording plugins, as well as https://osdoc.cogsci.nl/3.2/manual/environment/#:~:text=pygaze%20%2D%2Dupgrade-,Manually%20installing%20plugins%20and%20extensions,scans%20for%20plugins%20and%20extensions. but it is not working. I've looked on different forums and apparently the problem I'm having is due to an issue with the pip install version not being compatible with Macs. I did some troubleshooting in this area as well and it still wouldn't budge. Am I missing anything? Are these plugins just incompatible with Mac? I am new to Open Sesame (and coding in general!) so any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you :)

  • Hi Jens,

I can't say much to the specific issue you are reporting here (neither have I ever worked with Macs, nor with the soundrecording plugin), but I would generally advice against using that plugin as it is quite outdated and probably won't work right away.

Instead you'll find several discussion on the forum how to record sound. For example, see here:

But you'll find more if you browse the forum. By the way, outside Openseame, using play Python there are also multiple ways described how to record sounds. See here: https://realpython.com/playing-and-recording-sound-python/

    Hope this helps,
