Problems with checking the answer of the participants

Hi all! I have a question, I currently uploaded my experiment from LABJS to Jatos, but when I download the data I cannot review the responses of the participants, I only see data such as name or duration of the test. Also, when I upload an experiment the next day the platform removes it. Does anyone know how I can solve this? Thank you very much for your answers!!

  • Hi Karla,

You probably clicked on 'Export Metadata', which gives you the experiment duration etc. Click on 'Download Results' to export your result data.

It sounds like you're using cortex.jatos.org, which, as you noticed, gets reset every day and deletes any experiments along with result data. We say on the documentation (http://www.jatos.org/JATOS-Tryout-Server.html) that that server is only meant to try things out, and should not be used to collect data.

To collect data, use instead a JATOS server that is either hosted by your own university, that you host yourself on the cloud (like on Digital Ocean or AWS), or use our free temporary server -But please check with us before you do-. http://www.jatos.org/JATOS-server-during-the-COVID-19-pandemic.html

Also, please don’t cross post the same question on all forums. it won’t get you an answer any faster and only adds to our work.

  • Hello Elisa, thank you very much for your answer. Sorry to post my question in the forums, the truth is that I am new to JATOS and did not know if the two forums were really valid, from now on I will only post my questions in one of the two forums.

Regarding downloading results, when I try to download in the "duration" section, it appears for example "00:13:55 (not finished yet)" even though the participant has completed the test, and the results do not download anything, this time I changed the experiment to https://experiments.jatos.org/ so that it would not be deleted, before I thought that the data problem could be related to that, but now I don't know. I also wanted to ask you if to use the free server I should send them a message and if this is related to the experiment not working correctly.

I apologize for my extension, I have been reading the available manual but I still have many doubts, Thank you very much !!

    HI Karla,

Regarding downloading results, when I try to download in the "duration" section, it appears for example "00:13:55 (not finished yet)" even though the participant has completed the test, and the results do not download anything,

I don't understand. What do you do exactly to download the duration section (column?) alone? Do you click on Export Results or Export Metadata?

and the results do not download anything,

What happens when you click on the little icon containing the number of results and a little arrow? (see image below). Do you see any text that has been stored as result data? That's what you download when you click on Export Results. If you don't see anything there, then chances are that you didn't send any data.

Did you try your experiment on a local JATOS instance on your computer? Does it work there? That should always be the first step: try it on your local computer, debug it using the developer tools of the browser, make sure that your data can be collected correctly. Only then upload it to the server.

I also wanted to ask you if to use the free server I should send them a message and if this is related to the experiment not working correctly.

It depends on your study. We explain in the docs that if you want to collect a large number of participants at once, or show or record audio/video, that increases the traffic, leading to more costs. So yes, you should check with us. In doubt, just send us the details of what you plan to do. But to answer your question, no I don't think this has anything to do with you not seeing your data.

  • HI Karla, I'm trying to follow up on this because several people asked a similar question and it's unclear if it's the same issue (an underlying bug in JATOS) or just different people having issues with the OSWeb code/JATOS GUI use.

Did you solve issue, and could you see your data?

    Thanks

    Elisa
