constant ssh connection needed to keep jatos up?
Hey Guys!
I've been using OS for a few years now, absolutely love it, and I also started using JATOS a few months back, when the virus hit Europe. I am truly amazed how fast and easy data collection is with JATOS, and I am also really happy about the fact that I managed to make it work in the first place.
Now, I don't really have a problem, I am just looking for suggestions to make the system more efficient. I just bought a small VPS, installed JATOS, it seems to work fine. The thing is, I have to keep an SSH connection to the VPS to keep JATOS up. This is just an inconvenience really, but now I just cant turn off my laptop or go outside wi-fi range with it, if I want to keep JATOS accessible for the participants at all times.
Can anyone suggest a way to go around this? I am currently using PuTTY to connect to the VPS and fire up JATOS.

Hi,
Nice to hear you love JATOS :)
If I understand you problem correctly: you got a server, installed JATOS, start it - and then if you close the SSH terminal JATOS gets terminated too. This sounds like you want to run a program in the background on Linux/Unix. Although it is not really JATOS related - running programs in the background is a general problem. There are many ways to achieve this. A simple way is
And a more professional way is via systemd: http://www.jatos.org/JATOS-on-a-server.html#1-via-systemd-service-jatos-version--316-recommended
