OSWeb errors
Hi all,
A colleague's experiment is not working as we intended it to, and we are unsure why. Some participants did not get to start the experiment at all, whereas others got an error message sometime during the experiment. I am unsure about the following possibilities:
(1) participants ran the experiment in Safari; I know about issues with audio files, but we only used images in this study;
(2) they participated in Canada, whereas the JATOS server is hosted in the Netherlands;
(3) some pictures are used during the experiment, but not that many, as the experiment file is only 3.6 MB (although some participants complained about the loading time; maybe they reloaded the page which could've resulted in an error?)
I tried to attach the .osexp file, but I got a 413 error.

Hi Jelle,

I don't think Safari is the issue

Shouldn't be a problem if your experiment is only 3.6 MB in size. At most a bit longer loading time.
(3) some pictures are used during the experiment, but not that many, as the experiment file is only 3.6 MB (although some participants complained about the loading time; maybe they reloaded the page which could've resulted in an error?)
What is the question? 3.6 MB cannot slow down your experiment dramatically even from Canada. And reloading the page leads to an error if this component is not set to reloadable: http://www.jatos.org/Restricting-study-flow.html#allow-reload-or-prevent-a-reload-of-the-same-component
I have a question: What is the error message that your participants got when they could not start the experiment? What is the error message that your participants got during the experiment?
Best,
Kristian
Dear Kristian,
Thanks for your quick response. I found the setting and it is automatically disabled, so I will try and see if this fixes the issue.
I will ask my colleague specifically what kind of errors the participants got (also if there were different errors for participants who could start but got an error halfway and for those who could not start at all).
Many thanks!
Best
Jelle
