precision timing OSWeb

Hi, is there any data regarding the timing precision of OSWeb for experiments that aim to display very brief stimuli (i.e. 1 frame) and also regarding the recording of response latencies?

Psychopy & Pavlovia seems very good and so I was wondering about OSweb with Psychopy as backend running in JATOS.. any advise will be much appreciated!!

cheers,

david

  • Hi @david,

Osweb doesn't use the backends that OpenSesame itself does; it is a whole new separate implementation. As far as I know, there have not been any benchmarks yet for Oswebs performance. Under the hood, osweb uses pixi.js for stimuli presentation, which is also what psycho.js uses, thus in that regard there should be little difference, although there may always be some variation in performance due to implementation differences between osweb en psycho.js.

Backends (pavlovia vs. jatos) have no effect on display timings in the most cases.
