Calculating probability of each word of a text

Dear Sebastiaan,

I am currently learning how to use OpenSesame and I have few questions about it. My aim is to build an experiment using OpenSesame as it follows:

  • given a specific text, I want to evaluate the probability that one word follows another one incrementally. To do so, I will present 100 subjects the text, one word at the time plus the previous words and ask them to write the word they think will follow.
  • for example, given the sentence "Every day I go to school", I would present the sentence one word at the time. Every time a new word is added, I will ask to write on the keyboard the word they think it will follow: "every" + input from user; "every day" + input from user; "every day I" + input from user;" every day I go" + input from user; and so on till the end of the sentence.
  • I want to collect all responses, correct and incorrect, and evaluate how many participants will choose the right word every time.

  • Hi Cosimo,

given a specific text, I want to evaluate the probability that one word follows another one incrementally.

Do you mean, generally, across all texts that there are? Or just across the sample of yours?

I want to collect all responses, correct and incorrect, and evaluate how many participants will choose the right word every time.

Sounds good. Do you have a specific question already? What you say can easily be done with python, and therefore with Opensesame. So, there shouldn't be anything stopping you from getting started on the implementation.

    Good luck,

    Eduard
