Tobii SteelSeries Sentry
Dear all,
I am a conservation biologist, who would like to start studying and practicing eyetracking, to design and perform experiments about visual attention towards different news framing concerning wildlife.
Over the last few days I discovered both Pygaze and OpenSesame, which look pretty impressive and flexible. As this research was self-funded I purchased a relatively old, but cheap, Tobii SteelSeries Sentry. I have seen that some people already use for relatively coarse-grained study about fixation times (https://ipsj.ixsq.nii.ac.jp/ej/?action=pages_view_main&active_action=repository_view_main_item_detail&item_id=183928&item_no=1&page_id=13&block_id=8) and I was thinking about setting up a laptop with Ubuntu 14.04/16.04 or Windows 7/10 to carry out some trials. I would like to design my experiment with OpenSesame, but it seems to use PyGaze for eye tracking devices.
Would PyGaze support my device as well? I have seen that Tobii devices are supported, but I wondered whether mine would work as well.

Ciao Jacopo, buon anno! Ti rispondo in inglese...
I think that EyeX and Steelseries are not supported as you can figure out on this old page (link below): "You may not record gaze data. This is a developer SDK term meant to make you buy Tobii’s more expensive trackers...."
Moreover, the creator of Pygaze says (link below) that in order to use Pygaze the device have to be compatible with Tobii-Pro-Sdk and it seems that you can't use the pro sdk with the Tobii Eyex, Stelseries and 4c. With the latter you can buy a license to use it. (read the comments at the bottom of the page)
I used Opensesame + pygaze with a Tobii X3-120 ( but it cost a lot).
I see that Pygaze support also this eyetrackers (link below) a little bit less expensive than Tobii
