Ordinal variables not recognized
Dear all,
I need to run several statistical analyses on JAPS with ordinal variables. In my SPSS file, they are recognized as ordinal. Usually when I open JASP, then the variables appears with the same types (scale, ordinal, etc.) than on SPSS. But it's not the case here (see pictures attached - all my variables are recognized as scales so I can't run my analyses) and I have no idea why - that's the first time I have this problem.
- I have tried on another computer and from the same SPSS file, my variables are correctly recognized as ordinal - problem is that I need to run a big model with Bayesian stats and that computer is not powerful enough
- I have already reinstalled JASP and tried different versions, the problem is always the same, that is, all my variables are recognized as scales in JASP.
Would someone have a solution?
Thank you!
Emilie

Hi Emilie,
First, you can change the measurement level by clicking the ruler icon.
Second, the rule that JASP uses to guess the measurement level for ordinal vs scale variables depends on the number of different values that a variable takes on. This rule you can adjust in the settings. To select the hamburger menu on the top left, go to Preferences -> Data -> Import threshold...
Also, I believe that when you add a decimal (e.g., 13.0, 2.2) the scale will always be recognized as scale (but that does not seem to be the case here). Let me know how this works out for you.
Cheers,
E.J.
