JASP - CFA second order model with two factors
Hi!
How can I test a second-order model with two factors? One with five and the other with four first-order factors. In the second-order panel I only find the option to have one factor at the second-order.
Can you please help me?
Many thanks in advance.
P.S. If I have to do it through the SEM panel, can you guide me with the code that I have to use?
Thanks!
All the best,
Anabela

Hi Anabela,
I'll forward this to our expert but I think he might need some more concrete guidance on what the data look like, what you've already tried, and what you seek to accomplish.

Hi E.J.,
Thank you for answering back.
I was trying to discover how to do a second-order model with two factors at the second order. In the CFA menu we can only have one factor, right? It would be great if in other versions we could have more factors in the second order.
I had help from a friend. I will post here the script so it can help others. The script was used in SEM module.
F1 =~ V1 + V2
F2 =~ V3 + V4
F3 =~ V5 + V6
F4 =~ V7 + V8
....
F9 =~ V10 + V18
FF1 =~ F1 + F2 + F3 + F4 + F5
FF2 =~ F6 + F7 + F8 + F9
FF1 ~ FF2
All the best,
Anabela
Hi Anabela,
As of now, it is indeed not possible to run a second-order factor model with more than one second order factor using the CFA module.
I'm glad to see that you found a solution. I would have suggested using the SEM module for this too. In general, with more complicated models, which often require more 'fine-tuning', the SEM module can often prove advantageous over the CFA module due to its great flexibility. Your syntax looks fine, but I can't say more without knowing the research question and data.
Best regards,
Michael
