Running a sentence production experiment on MindProbe

Hi there! I want to conduct an online experiment with around 500 participants. The tasks in the experiment mainly involves 1) listening to audio stimuli and repeat, 2) describing pictures, and 3) memory recognition decision making. The utterances in the picture description task will be recorded. I was wondering whether it is possible to run such a sentence production experiment on MindProbe?

I have several more specific concerns that might increase the load of the MindProbe server:

  1. We will use audio clips as stimuli, which will result in a considerable size of the experiment file (I estimate the size of file is between 5MB and 10MB).
  2. We would not expect over a hundred participants to start the experiment near-simultaneously. But we do think it is possible to have a number of overlapping participants, especially when the participant recruitment initiates.
  3. The volume of the experiment data per participant can be relatively large (~ 600KB per participant) since the experiment involves audio recording.

Should I be worried about the concerns above when running experiment on MindProbe? Thank you so much!

Best,

Chi

  • Hi Chi!

Your experiment looks doable on Mindprobe. If the result data stays at around 600kB per study run it shouldn't be a problem. But it's important not to have to many overlapping participants. It's probably best to have a test run with just a few participants (e.g. 10). And maybe you can run the experiment in batches (of e.g. 50 participants) to reduce the load on the server. I wish you all the best with your experiment!

  • Dear @kri

Many thanks for the response! I will then do a test run on MindProbe.
