[solved] Timing

edited January 2014 in OpenSesame

Hi,
I'm running an N400 experiment and I have difficulties with the correct timing.
I have the following structure in my experiment:
At each trial a colored picture of a single object should appear for 4000ms on the screen. After an interval of 900ms from picture onset a sentence should be acoustically presented which 1000 ms later, while the picture is still seen on the screen, will be followed by a word.
The experiment is running correctly, but the timing is not. How can I set the timing intervals? Actually the picture is shown for 6000ms despite I set duration on 4000ms. And I am not successful in editing the script that the audio will be played after 900ms and 1000ms.
Thanks for any help!!

    Hi Nina,

I'm not exactly sure whether I understand your design. The sketchpad should be presented for 4000 ms, but:

    • You only want to wait for 900 ms before playing the sentence
    • and the interval between sentence (offset?) and word (onset?) is only 1000 ms.

Does that mean the duration of the two audio files takes the remaining (4000 - 1000 - 900) = 2100 ms? Or should the sketchpad remain on screen even after the word offset, to obtain a stimulus duration of 4000 ms?

    Best,

    Lotje

    Hi Lotje,

thank you for your fast reply!
You understand exactly what I need :-)
The sketchpad should be presented for 4000ms during the whole trial. I only want to wait for 900ms before playing the sentence. And the Interval between sentence offset and word onset is only 1000ms. For the last 2100 ms the sketchpad remains on screen.
But I think I solved it yesterday. I set the duration for the sketchpad to 900ms, sentence duration to 1000ms and Item duration to 2100ms. Now it seems to be perfect. Maybe you have an other suggestion to solve it or is this the best solution?

    Thanks,

    Nina
