[Help] Programming an emotional picture stroop (congruity, interference)
Hello everyone,
I need help programming an emotional picture stroop test. I have done the tutorials in the PDF without struggleing too much, but I can't wrap my head around this task.
I have 2 tasks to program, a picture task and a word task:
I have 4 emotional categories (happiness, peacefulness, sadness and fear) with 9 pictures and 3 words for each emotion. Each word should be paired with three diff. pictures for both incongruent (e.g. positive emotion pic + negative emotion word) and congruent ( e.g. pos. emo. pic. + pos. emo. word) conditions. For the neutral condition, 12 neutral words are paired with the 36 emo.pics.
The 36 different pictures appear in congruent, incongruent and neutral conditions, leading to a total of 108 stimuli. The word task should be composed of the same congruent and incongruent trials and the neutral trials should consist of the same emotional words paired with neutral pics, forming 108 stimuli.
The design: fixationcross (500ms), blank (500ms), stimulus (2000ms)
Participants have to press a key for either congruent (K-key) and incongruent (D-key)
proportions are 1/3 for each condition (incong., cong., neutral)
i know this is a lot, but I would appreciate every input you got!

Hi @Whiiz,
The design you're describing seems to be an orthogonal design that should straightforward to set up as a loop table that you could execute in a random order.
I'm not sure what you exact question is. Your post is probably a little too general for other users to contribute (you seem to be asking for guidance to program the whole task).
If you have a specific question about a task you've programmed, do not hesitate to post it.
Best,
Fabrice.
