JASP 0.16.1.0 unresponsive and JASP-Qt6-Testing-2 systematically crashing
Hi there,
For some time I've had some issues with JASP. A few versions ago it became unresponsive, sometimes getting stuck for so long and so often that it is not usable. I've experienced this issue on several computers, with Windows 10 and Windows 11. I just got a new computer with plenty of RAM (64 GB), very fast processor, but it remains unresponsive.
I then came across JASP-Qt6-Testing-2. Now that works very fast and I have not experienced unresponsiveness but... it keeps crashing every time I set up a repeated measures ANOVA (classic or Bayesian). More specifically, it crashed when I validate the name of the second factor.
Here's a capture of what happens every time:
I then tried setting up the RM ANOVA with JASP 0.16.1.0, save the file (very slow due to unresponsiveness) and then read it with JASP-Qt6-Testing-2. Now, when I do that, I can edit the name of the second factor in the RM ANOVA without it crashing. But if I create a new RM ANOVA, it crashes again.
I haven't tried other analyses, so I don't know whether the issue is specific to the RM ANOVA or comes up with other analyses.
I use JASP in my own research and I teach it to my undergraduate and postgraduate students. Don't really want to switch to another program, but the problems described above make it very complicated.
Has anybody experienced similar problems or know of a fix?
Many thanks in advance for any hint!
Best,
Fabrice.

Hi Fabrice,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will ask the team, but I do believe we have fixed this RM ANOVA bug. We are also fixing the slowness issue as you have seen -- some basic restructuring has taken place. A new version should be out any time now.
Cheers,
E.J.
Hi @EJ,
Thanks for the fast reply! (saved me from posting a bug report on the Github page 🙂)
Awesome, then I'll wait for the next update 👍️ Looking forward to it!
Cheers,
Fabrice.
The team never sleeps, and informs me the latest development version also should not crash. You can find it here: https://static.jasp-stats.org/Nightlies/
Hi @EJ,
Awesome! Gosh, the team is busy indeed! Thanks a lot for the link!
Have downloaded the latest version and the ANOVA is now running smoothly and JASP is very responsive.
Many thanks!
Fabrice.
