Media player sound renderer

Hi,

I've been using the media player plugin (media_player_mpy) successfully in OpenSesame. Now I'm trying to program an experiment in which sound files are played in parallel with the video, and I want them to be played through separate sound channels. The way I thought of doing this is to play the sound of the video through the computer 's speaker, and the additional sound files through the sound-card that is connected to the computer (using pyo in an inline script).

So basically my question is how do I force the sound of the video to be played through the computer (and not through the sound-card), without shutting-down the sound-card.

I would also be happy to hear if there are any better ideas for dealing with this.

Thank you,

Paz

  • Hi Paz,

Are you sure this is possible? I am not a hardware expert, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is also challenging hardware-wise. A quick google also led to mixed results. In any case, if you think it works, it certainly will not work with the Video plugin. The only option I can see, is that you let the media player plugin pick whichever sound card it likes, and then choose the other one for your audio files. Alternatively, you might find a way to present video directly in Python, rather than via the plugin. Then you might have more flexibility in choosing the proper soundcard.

    Hope this helped,

    Eduard
