Video playback shaky using media player

edited March 2022 in OpenSesame

Hi,

I'm trying to make an OpenSesame experiment which displays videos, which I put in the experiment with the media player plugin. On my laptop, I have no problems running the video. On the PC I need to use for the experiment (Windows), the videos al play very shaky. I've tried multiple video formats (mp4, avi, flv, mpg), but nothing seems to resolve this issue. What could be a solution?

Note: my laptop uses OpenSesame 3.3.11 and the PC uses OpenSesame 3.2.8

  • Hi @IrisH,

Sounds as if the problem is not with the video files' integrity if they play fine on one computer. To help pinpoint what the issue might be...

    • Do the videos play correctly if you play them from another application (e.g.., Window's media player, or some application like VLC)?
    • is the problem specific to the videos for your experiment or do you also encounter problems with other videos?
    • Could you try installing the latest version of OS on your PC to see if the issue remains?
    • Is your laptop running Windows too?

That you're encountering a problem even for different formats (mpg, avi, mp4 etc.) makes it unlikely that it is to do with the codecs on your PC. Still, if you don't have the VLC player on your PC, try installing it and see if your video files play correctly with that application.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply!

I have found the issue: the files I used were downloaded off of Microsoft Teams, which caused the issues. I have gotten the .mp4-files another way and now they work how they're supposed to. Nevertheless, thank you for helping.

    Best,

    Iris
