python crashes with script that used to work

Hello,

I've been running an open sesame experiment succesfully on a group of participants. Now, I want to add a new group. I have not changed or updated the script nor the system, yet now when I run my script it crashes at random time points with the generic 'python seems to have crashed, this should not happen'. What can be the cause of this?

Thank you very much in advance,

SvO

  • Hi SvO,

This usually doesn't happen, and probably has to do with a change of the system of which you are not aware of, e.g. maybe a version change in some library that Opensesame doesn't use exclusively.

How have you installed Opensesame? If you did it with Conda, the environment is rather save actually (unless you meddle with it yourself).

yeah, these are annoying to debug. To find out whether it is your experiment or the system, you could try to

    • try different experiments and see whether it still crashes
    • check the log (including as many info as possible) where exactly the experiment crashed and try to find a pattern
    • try to take out components of your experiment until it works
    • build your experiment from scratch

But possibly it would be easier to just get the newest version of Opensesame and rebuild the experiment for it.

    Good luck,

    Eduard
