4x2 Factorial Mixed ANOVA interaction effect - what next?

Hi

4x2 factorial mixed ANOVA in JASP, so running as RMANOVA.

4 groups, pre and post.

When I have only a Main interaction effect only (Main effect time is not significant). Do I run Simple Main Effects for both Time and Group?

And double-checking if run same RMANOVA - 4 groups, pre- and post- and only get significant Main effect Time - is that it? nothing else to run? Just report it .

  • I take it you have a main effect of group but no main effect of pre/post and no interaction. Then it seems to me that you might want to know whether the mean of each group differs significantly from the mean of each of the other groups, which would entail post-hoc test of the "group" factor.

Had you gotten only a main effect of time, you would not do any post hoc tests because there are only two levels of time--an effect that is already fully assessed by the main effect of time.
